How we make our plants
We specialize in Penstemons and herbs, also offering range of hardy perennials, shrubs and grasses. In harmony with nature our plants are grown in an unheated polytunnel. During the cold winter months even the water butt in there freezes! In the summer it is like an oven and so our plants are used to the extremes and are strong enough to endure.
We propagate our plants by the moon cycle, which the old folk and some of our local farmers still swear by. Everything is grown organically using peat free compost and organic plant-based (nettle and comfrey) feed and we collect rain water for the watering and during dry spells we pump natural water from our well.
Our plants are, on the whole, propagated from the plants in our gardens and from seed. The plants are sold ready to plant out in the garden, unless otherwise stated.
We do not keep a stock of every plant listed at all times and encourage you to contact us for special orders to be grown for next season.
To help you choose we have listed the plants in alphabetical order by their botanical name. The common name is given to each plant so if you wish to find a plant by its common name please use the website search box on the right hand side of the page. Alternatively you can browse our plants by colour theme, the colour donates the flower colour.
We have also included season of interest. Time of flowering is included in each plant description, however the season of interest includes fruits and leaf colour, so has been added additionally in the ‘basket’ description with a brief description of the type of plant, whether it is good for wildlife, drought tolerance and size.
Of course we are always happy to help and give advice, if you would like it, via our contact form.
How we send our plants
Plants are sent bare root and some can’t be sent via mail order. In the meantime I am happy to let you know what is available and if it can be sent out, by using the contact form. At present the cost of the packaging is 15€ for the box and as more than one plant can usually fit in it is advisable to consider that when ordering to keep costs down.
You are welcome to order plants, in advance, for pick up, where you will save money and have the opportunity to visit us. To do this please send a list of your wishes via our contact tab and we will let you know availability and when they will be ready. Payment can be made when you pick the plants up.
